With the release of a new gameplay trailer, Coffee Stain and Iron Gate have announced that hit viking survival game Valheim will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on 14th March 2023. The game will also be available on day one as part of Xbox Game Pass – it’s already a part of PC Game Pass.
The trailer blurb also re-confirms that Valheim will feature full cross-play between Xbox and PC, whether that’s the Microsoft Store version of the game or the Steam release. You’ll be able to join servers with up to 10 players, building, fighting and surviving together in the Norse afterlife.
Valheim originally launched back in February 2021 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest breakout hits of the year. Its lo-fi visuals, Viking theme, and refined survival gameplay created the perfect storm, no doubt fuelled by the increasing boredom of gamers stuck in lockdown. Over ten million copies were sold in the game’s first year, and it’s remained popular with a handful of major content drops – most recently the Mistlands update arrived, but there’s still more realms for Iron Gate to create.
The PC version of the game is still forging ahead with these regular content drops while it’s in Steam Early Access from developer Iron Gate, with the Xbox and Microsoft Store versions being handled by Piktiv and Fishlabs.
