With Tetris Effect: Connected part of the PSVR 2 launch line up on 22nd February, Enhance has announced that they will also be releasing a free update for all platforms to add new Endless modes to the game.
The new game modes include:
Classic Score Attack means that Tetris Effect can now be used for submitting official leaderboard scores.
Those modes will be added with a free update to all versions of the game across PS4 and PSVR, where the game originally launched in 2018, PC, Meta Quest, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Amazon Luna.
However, the PS5 and PSVR 2 version is not a free upgrade. It will be available as a new release, but owners of the PS4 version of the game will be asked to upgrade to the PS5 / PSVR 2 version for $9.99.
On PSVR 2, Tetris Effect comes with support for 120fps and a full resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye – on TV, the game will easily do 4K at 60fps (because it’s just a fancy looking of Tetris). Beyond the raw technical specs, the game also adds new haptic feedback via the PSVR 2 headset’s rumble motor, as well as Sense and DualSense haptics, and support for eye-tracking – this lets you enter the ZONE by closing and then opening your eyes. The controls have been adapted to the Sense VR controllers as well, though without a D-pad, you might prefer to play with a DualSense in hand, which is also possible.
Looking back on our original Tetris Effect review, Dom wrote, “At times spiritual, transcendental and zen-like, at others excruciating, heart-poundingly tense and eye-wateringly immersive, Tetris Effect is game of the year material and essential on PlayStation VR.”
