Remasters And Remakes Make Up 90 Percent Of 2023's Highest-Rated Games
90 percent of Metacrtitic's top ten highest-rated games of 2023 so far are remasters and remakes, with Hi-Fi Rush acting as the only wholly original game to make the list so far.
We might only be in March, but it seems like we've already got tons of great games to be talking about, including Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, Hi-Fi Rush, Persona 4 Golden, and Metroid Prime Remastered. There is one commonality between those games, however - most of them are remakes and remasters.

As reported by Kotaku, the Metacritic top ten for 2023 as of the time of writing is mostly populated by remakes, remasters, and ports of older games. In fact, 90 percent of the top ten is made up by those games, with only one completely original game - the excellent Hi-Fi Rush, which currently stands in ninth place overall.
At the top of the list we have Metroid Prime Remastered, which is somewhere between a remake and a remaster, The Witcher 3's current-gen update, and the recently-reviewed Resident Evil 4. Beyond that are Tetris Effect Connected, Dead Space, and Persona 4 Golden, across a variety of different platforms. At least the GameCube has finally been done some justice with Resi 4 and Metroid being so high on the list.
Going further down the list from numbers 11 to 20 does thankfully add a few new fresh faces, including Theatrhythm Final Bar Line and Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, but it does introduce even more ports like Monster Hunter Rise and Rez Infinite. Let's forget all of that, though, as there's a much bigger question that needs answering - where the heck is Pizza Tower?!
