For more than four years now, the Epic Games Store has regularly given away free games. Every Thursday at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, Epic offers at least one free PC game (sometimes two or three, though!). All you need to do to claim the free games is create a free Epic account and enable two-factor authentication to start snagging freebies. You have a week to add the freebies to your library before the new one(s) take their place. At this point, Epic has given away hundreds of free games, and there's no sign that the program will stop any time soon. We keep this article up to date weekly to highlight both the current free games and next week's offerings.
From now until March 30 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, Chess Ultra is available for free on the Epic Games Store. This take on chess features 4K visuals, cross-platform play, «Grandmaster-approved AI levels,» spectating options, more than 80 chess puzzles, and Twitch integration so you can play with your viewers more easily. The game also has full support for the Rift and HTC Vive headsets, letting you physically reach out to move your chess pieces. Other chess set packs are heavily discounted right now, as well.
Additionally, the DLC World of Warships — Starter Pack: Ishizuchi is also available for free for the same time period. It gives you the titular battleship, a port slot, camouflages, economic bonuses, and award containers.
Next week's free game will be Tunche. It will be available from the time the previous games leave the program until April 6, and the colorful action game usually costs $20.
