Like many other games in the soulslike genre, has a number of NPC questlines, including one centered on a Stalker known as Black Cat, that run throughout the entire game — and although in most cases these quests are less obtuse than others in the genre, the different outcomes of each quest can still be unclear. As each NPC quest can only be completed in one way per playthrough of the game, decisions that yield different rewards or story outcomes can be especially important to consider, especially since certain decisions can have effects outside their individual storylines.
Black Cat is a recurring NPC encounter in, mostly seen alongside his sister, Red Fox. Like fellow NPC Alidoro and many other Stalkers, both characters wear animal-themed masks and outfits, and appear at several different points in the games with differing interactions each time. The first time they can be encountered is in Venigni Works, specifically near the Workshop Union Culvert Stargazer, overlooking the large pit where a Puppet of the Future can optionally be fought. This appearance serves mostly just as an introduction to the two characters, with Black Cat also selling a collectible book which turns out to be a minor scam. As the narrative of progresses, however, the two become more integrated into the main plot.

Further encounters with the duo will see them becoming more involved — the next time they're met is in the Malum District, where they will offer to help fight through the area.
