Starfield isn't the most complex of games, but it does have a few sneaky tricks that players can take advantage of if they know how to pull them off properly. We've already seen players uncover methods of killing civillains in broad daylight without angering the local law enforcement, and several ways to obtain unlimited cash. Now players are just discovering a much easier way to pinch things, and it involves tricking poor helpless NPCs into pretty much stealing things for you.
If you've played Starfield, you'll more than likely be aware of Manipulation, a Master Social Skill that allows you to makes NPCs following your commands for a brief period. It has its uses, and even lets you pinch another NPCs clothes if you're cool with committing a double murder, but it turns out that there are plenty more crimes you can commit with the aid of an NPC or two.

First shared to the Starfield subreddit by user Sea-Charge-3132, they explain that despite having played the game for hundreds of hours, they weren't aware that you can use the Manipulation skill to open locked containers for you, allowing you to swipe the contents for yourself. Despite how simple that sounds, it seems like a lot of other people also weren't aware that you can trick NPCs in this manner, as the replies are full of amazed players, and the post itself has racked up over 6,000 upvotes.
As for how so many people were seemingly unaware of the skill's ability to do this, it could be down to a number of things. Investing points into the social skill tree to actually get Manipulation isn't a particularly popular thing to do, especially when you're not exactly told all of the benfits that the skill can bring.
