After years of focusing on expansive open-world experiences, Ubisoft is doing something different with and. refocuses on the franchise's stealth roots and delivering one compelling city as the primary playground, while places players more directly in the shoes of Assassins for a first-person VR experience. Screen Rant attended an preview event at Ubisoft Montreal that featured some hands-on gameplay and conversations with creative forces behind the games.
Bringing Baghdad to life is a key component of, and the event placed a big emphasis on this setting. Ubisoft Montreal highlighted the franchise's return to the Middle East with decor inspired by the markets of Baghdad and cuisine rooted in its culinary traditions. Unlike typical settings, no structures from the Golden Age of Baghdad remain, making the city a unique challenge to realize in-game. Lead historian Raphaël Weyland spoke about the work that went into bringing the city to life in a way that honored authenticity even when filling in unknowable gaps.

Preview stations for was available to play throughout the day, defaulting to the side mission focusing on the assassination of a perfume trader. Running across rooftops to take out each target in silence makes the endeavor easy, while blowing cover at the wrong time can quickly spin things out of control. Tools like throwing knives and Basim's eagle scout Enkidu are helpful assists, but an archer has to be taken out before Enkidu is of use in the perfume seller assassination, forcing a bit of riskier play across the rooftops.
