The last time we asked our readership for their opinions on the best printers for the workplace was 2021. Taking a couple of years off gave us time to expand the survey and the coverage. This year, we go beyond basic office printers (no matter what the work setting): We break things down into printers specifically for the office, vs those printers used for work at home.
Not only that, for 2023 we’ve also asked for ratings on scanners—the tools we need to get all that analog data into digital form.
Plus, we specifically asked IT managers to tell us what brands they prefer to deploy and maintain. The answers may surprise you. Read on to see what brands help people like you get real work done.
After a winning streak that goes back over a decade, we fully expected to see Brother take the award as the top business printer in both home and office. Instead, Ricoh comes out of nowhere to sneak into the top spot for office-only printer use. It does so with superlative scores for overall satisfaction, reliability, tech support, repairs, print quality and speed, and all the multifunction options. Brother still fares well, though. In fact, it has a higher likelihood of recommendation score than Ricoh. But it takes some hits in other categories, with the lowest score for tech support and photo print quality. And Brother lands in the secondary slot for office printers.
If you wonder which printers in the office are least liked, the bottom slots go to Lexmark. HP, and Xerox.
