Unlike other recent titles, alternative weapons like axes or bow aren't present in the game, meaning that one sword or another will remain equipped throughout the entire game. None of the available blades in are entirely lacking in style, but some are more basic than others, making abandoning less glamorous options once others become available to Basim a good call.
Each sword in features some unique perks of its own, making any blade viable depending on which strengths are the most appealing. This might make it impossible to pick a sword based on its appearance, but luckily features a system that allows one weapon to take on the appearance of another. This can be achieved by visiting a blacksmith and paying 50 dirham, a system that also works for daggers.

The Zanj uprising is a movement of Baghdad's downtrodden, so it makes sense that a sword associated with the rebellion wouldn't be particularly ornate. That being said, its clean utilitarianism can feel somewhat lacking compared to more flashy alternatives in. This is a solid option for those who prefer straight swords, but its design is unlikely to see use through the endgame when placed among the competition.
The Initiate of Alamut sword is essentially a beginner option in, making its lack of distinction generally unsurprising. Its clean lines and beautiful hilt still make it a great-looking blade, but it doesn't angle into any one design element in the way that many other swords in do. Sticking with this sword throughout the game wouldn't be a major disservice
