We're roughly one week removed from the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage, and Ubisoft has taken to social media in order to boast of the game's success. However, the publisher's statement is rather vague — it doesn't disclose any concrete sales numbers (a growing trend amongst just about every company), and instead focuses on the broader picture.
«With the number of players being in line with past successful launches such as Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Odyssey, we are humbled by the positive reception,» says Ubisoft. It goes on to claim that Basim's adventure has been the publisher's best-selling title on current-gen consoles, like the PS5: «Mirage is the biggest New Gen launch in terms of units sales to date at Ubisoft.»
While it's clear that Assassin's Creed Mirage has done well for itself, we'd be very interested in knowing how its release compares to the likes of Assassin's Creed Valhalla — which went on to become the most profitable entry in the entire franchise.
Mirage returns to the series' stealthy roots — at the request of many fans, it should be noted — and is also being sold at a slightly lower price than most big budget releases. These factors make it a bit of an outlier when examining Assassin's Creed's recent history, and we imagine that its success — or potential lack of success — will impact Ubisoft's plans for the franchise going forward.
Do you want Ubisoft to stick with stealth from now on, or is there always going to be a place for the open world RPG formula? Keep those blades hidden in the comments section below.
