Dataminers have found evidence that Epic Games is working on a new feature for Fortnite that will split up the storm and have more than of them in the game at once.
With modes like Zero Build, Epic Games has made it clear that it’s not afraid to mess around with Fortnite’s most well-known mechanics. Despite that, no matter how much Fortnite has changed over the years, there’s always been one constant - the Storm. According to a datamine of the latest update, that could be changing soon, however.

As reported by Fortnite leaker BurnnLeaks, the update for Chapter 4, Season 2 includes some leftover data from Epic that indicates that it’s currently testing out some changes to the Storm. Namely, it seems like it’s working on a mechanic that will split the storm up and create two different zones for players to fight on.
BurnnLeaks shared an image of the test modes, with one image reading “Storm Test Zerobuild Squads” and another saying “(PH) Split Storm Endgame”. There’s no footage of the feature in action or any more data within the update to give us more info on the mechanic, but it’s clear from the name of the test that the Storm will be split up, likely into multiple smaller areas that players can choose from.
It’s worth noting that, since it’s just a test right now, it seems that the feature is pretty early in development and likely won’t be in the game for some time (just think about how long a first-person mode has been in development).
Although it’s certainly interesting to imagine a match of Fortnite with more than one storm to fight in, it does raise some questions. For example, will players be able to move between the storms if they find themselves
