Hogwarts Legacy lets you explore the game world with a broom, but that’s not the only available mount. You get the chance to buy a broomstick early in the story, but you need to progress further with the main mission until you unlock The High Keep quest to finally get a Hippogriff.
You will meet a Hippogriff for the first time during the Beast Class main quest, but that’s not where you will get the chance to fly with this majestic creature. You will find all the information you need in this guide.
The High Keep quest belongs to the second half of the main storyline. You must have reached level 17 and have already learned Wingardium Leviosa from Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1. This spell is crucial to solving some of the puzzles in the quest.
In The High Keep, your friend Natsai Onai will ask you to meet her near Falbarton Castle, northeast of Hogsmeade. Once there, she will ask you for help retrieving a letter addressed to Theophilus Harlow and signed by Victor Rookwood.
Since the castle’s main gate is locked, you must find another way in. As you will soon discover, you can only enter by climbing the walls and, obviously, you can’t use your broom. Head to the right of the castle and get the first high ground by jumping towards the wall. You will soon notice a closed gate, which you can open by using Depulso on the mechanism on its left. You will spot a crate inside, which you need to move near the climbing spot with Wingardium Leviosa. Then, you can use Levioso to jump on in and reach the next area.
