Ed Boon is asking Mortal Kombat fans what past game modes they would like to see return in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 12. The Mortal Kombat co-creator has often engaged with fans on social media, sharing interesting stories behind the creation of NetherRealm’s beloved fighting game franchise and playfully teasing about what his studio might be working on next.
That new project was seemingly revealed during a Warner Bros. Discovery earnings call in February, when a high-ranking executive let it slip that NetherRealm is developing the often-rumored Mortal Kombat 12. Ed Boon himself had an amusing reaction to this on social media, and fans have since been scouring the internet looking for clues about when Mortal Kombat 12 could be released. So far, the aforementioned earnings call suggested it could come out later this year, but many are weary of this since both Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are also set to arrive in 2023.

In the meantime, Ed Boon has taken to social media to ask players about what they would like to see in Mortal Kombat 12 — namely what modes from past entries they would like to see return. So far, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance’s Konquest Mode is the leading option in Boon's recent Twitter poll, followed by the Mario Kart-style Motor Kombat from Mortal Kombat Armageddon, the board game-like Chess Kombat from Mortal Kombat: Deception, and the Tetris-based Puzzle Kombat from Mortal Kombat: Deception.
