Mortal Kombat 12 unfortunately got revealed in a manner that Ed Boon wouldn't have liked. While MK11 was revealed as a surprise at The Game Awards 2018, the news about Mortal Kombat 12 got out thanks to an investor call. However, no confirmation has come from NetherRealm Studios since then, but Boon's Tweets have been teasing fans about it.
Since fans of the series already know that the next installment of the series is imminent, forums have been abuzz with discussions about the game. Things like the roster, the story, returning characters, all have been discussed, but some fans are also hoping that NetherRealm doesn't disappoint them as they talk about their biggest fears for the game.

Gui_Franco, who is evidently bored of the cutscene-fight-cutscene formula of the last few of the developer's games, feels the studio should take a new approach. "Honestly? Bring the chapter system back, I know it's a staple but it really limits the story telling that they're clearly proud of, since NRS is known for being the fighting game studio that does good stories," they said.
"But the stories could be much better if characters could be played as in different sections, instead of being a god for 4 fights and then jobbing. It also limits interaction potential."
Another fear that fans had was the cosmetics system from MK11. While it allowed you to customise your Kombatant to your liking, it was pretty tough to get the exact piece of gear you wanted. For once, some fans actually want the studio to clearly put certain cosmetics for sale, so that they can directly get them instead of running around in the Krypt or relying on RNG.
