An insider has teased that we might be getting some Mortal Kombat 12 news at some point in May, which would track with recent rumours of it getting announced during the Summer.
After years of Ed Boon teasing that NetherRealm Studios' next game would be something unexpected, Warner Bros. accidentally confirmed during an earnings report that it was Mortal Kombat 12, ruining the mystique that Boon had been trying to build up. Even though we pretty much know with certainty that the next game from NetherRealm is Mortal Kombat 12, now the new waiting game is wondering when we get an official announcement, something that seems likelier with each passing week.

If you were hoping that it'd be next week, it seems like it might be a little longer than that, as it's being reported that the official announcement could be coming at some point in May. That's according to Windows Central reporter and gaming insider Jez Corden, who replied to popular fighting streamer Maximilian Dood on Twitter, claiming that we could hear about Mortal Kombat 12 next month.
Maximillian said, "Good lord, MK9 is really fun as shit. I now hope MK12 has the speed of MK9 decision making", which garnered an, "I think you'll find out more next month" response from Corden. Corden has previously had accurate insider information, so it seems likely that it's true, especially as we inch closer to the end of April with no hint in sight of an imminent announcement.
As of the time of writing, there's nothing going on in May that could be tied to the possible announcement of Mortal Kombat 12, as there are no major events going on. The closest thing to an event or showcase is Summer Games Fest in June, so it's
