Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon is able to send fans of the series into a tailspin by tweeting just about anything, and he knows it. The latest tease for the next MK game dropped on Wednesday, with the hand skipping '12' on a clock, further implying a reboot. A reliable leaker has claimed that will be the case, revealing additional details about how much the game will cost and the platforms it will launch on.
Leaker billbil-kun, the same person who has been accurately revealing PS Plus games ahead of time for over a year, claims the next MK game will be called Mortal Kombat 1. The leak also claims Mortal Kombat 1 will be $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, $60 on Nintendo Switch, and that there will be Premium and Kollector's editions priced at $110 and $250 respectively.

The leak also notes that aside from the Switch version, Mortal Kombat 1 will be current-gen only. No last-gen version for PS4 and Xbox One. As for when this information will be confirmed to be true or false, billbil-kun signs off by tweeting that an announcement is coming soon. Something Mortal Kombat fans have assumed ever since a Warner Bros. executive casually confirmed the next game in the series will be here before the end of 2023.
As for why fans believe the series will return to its roots rather than move on to Mortal Kombat 12, Wednesday's teaser was the biggest indicator yet. Nothing more than a clock ticking, but when the clock reached 11, it skipped 12 and went straight back to one. Before that, a video celebrating 30 years of Mortal Kombat ended with the camera zooming in on a single grain of sand exploding, big bang style. Many of you have been obsessing over that image ever since.
