Get ready for the propaganda to spill back into New Eden proper as player-made billboards have returned to EVE Online.
Billboards are all over New Eden, from outside and inside of stations and near every major stargate, making it so thousands upon thousands of players see them every day. These billboards recently have only housed in-universe ads, but CCP Games is once again re-opening these billboards to players as part of the EVE Online: Viridian expansion release in June.
«Who among us hasn't had their mouth water at the thought of enjoying some delicious Matigu Sushi, or dreamed about how much FOMO pictures from a vacation to the stunning beaches of The Jade Coast of Matar booked with travel agency Sinfina Mondo would generate among friends on GalNet? In the EVE universe, publicity is power – and with this relaunch, players can once again submit ads to be featured alongside iconic New Eden brands on in-game billboards.»
While CCP Games in their news post today states that these in-game billboards can be used to promote alliances, corporations, in-game events and more, it'll be interesting to see if creative EVE players can slip in a little bit of propaganda in the process. The community is known for it — it's part of the culture of EVE Online after all — so it'll be fun watching the creative EVE community flex those muscles a bit in-game. These will be submitted for approval by CCP as well, with the company stating it won't allow any billboards to hurt «players' wealth or assets in-game,» nor will they allow any to slip through that promote EVE scams.
