After living off scraps from Ed Boon's Twitter handle, we finally witnessed the announcement of the next chapter in the Mortal Kombat series. Mortal Kombat 1 will follow the MK universe remade by Fire God Liu Kang after the events of MK11. While we don't have any story details, the announcement trailer did give us a few clues.
The trailer revealed that Mortal Kombat 1 will be a timeline reset, but not an entire reboot. Liu Kang is now in charge, and he has recreated the MK universe giving everyone free will. And so we see what looks like Shang Tsung appearing before someone who looks like the great Kung Lao, a young Hanzo Hasashi and Bi-Han squaring off, and Kitana and Mileena riding in an Outworld palanquin together.

We know how these relationships unfolded before the timeline reboot, but the Mortal Kombat 1 trailer suggests things could go differently. Among all the things that could possibly change in this new timeline, many long-time fans have been hoping that Kitana and Mileena have a sisterly relationship. As you may know, Mileena is a clone of Kitana, spliced with Tarkatan DNA by Shang Tsung.
The Mortal Kombat Subreddit has a number of posts hoping for a better relationship between the two. They only hate one another because that's what they've been taught by Shao Kahn; and hopefully, MK1 changes that a bit.
