Sony is hosting a PlayStation Showcase this week, and after April's Final Fantasy XVI-focused event, this latest edition of the company's PlayStation showcases is expected to be a big one. A State of Play-style event during Not-E3 season usually contains some major reveals and announcements, and this one will focus on what's next for Sony's PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 platforms.
The PlayStation Showcase will run for more than an hour, beginning at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on May 24, and it will be available to watch on the official PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels.
What we do know is that Sony has some big games in development, and after Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22 for PS5, all eyes will be on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac, and possibly details on its Wolverine game. Spider-Man 2 has been rumored to be gearing up for a September launch, and the PlayStation Showcase will likely be the best event in which to make an official release date announcement.
Beyond Insomniac, there's also Naughty Dog expanding on its post-apocalyptic universe with The Last of Us multiplayer game, Guerrilla Games is rumored to also be venturing into that space with a multiplayer Horizon game, and a first look at what Jade Raymond's studio, Haven Games, has been up to since it was acquired by Sony.
Sony also has also confirmed that third-party content will be shown, as well as several games from its indie partners. Mortal Kombat 1 is out in September, and with Sony positioning itself as a hub for fighting game fans, PlayStation Showcase is another great venue to get a first look at gameplay for NetherRealm's upcoming brawler.
