A new teaser for the next Mortal Kombat game has been released by NetherRealm Studios, and one of the seemingly significant things about it could be that the game is not called Mortal Kombat 12. The clock skips from 11 to 1, missing out the 12. What this means is not yet clear, but it could be a number of things. The series could be going for another reboot which could see the new Mortal Kombat go back to the first tournament.

The teaser Tweet states that it is almost time for the reveal, which means it could be imminent. NetherRealm may be ready to release a teaser this week or next week. The time skip on the clock is similar to the tease from last week, which showed grains of sand falling from what is presumed is an hourglass. To video then focuses on a single grain which explodes. Time travelling is something that has been seen in the series before, so this would not be a big departure.
In our Mortal Kombat 11 we scored it 7/10 in our review way back in 2019, “This game is the pinnacle of Mortal Kombat action,” said Miguel at the time. “Fights are fluid, weighty, and gorgeous to look at. Unfortunately, that tightly-designed gameplay is bogged down by a grindy system of loot and consumables that only serves to artificially extend your playtime in the most tedious ways imaginable. There is so much heart and care put into this game, from the combat to the gorgeous visuals and memorable story, but that effort feels nullified by the desperate attempt to twist an iconic video game franchise into just another endlessly online service game.”
