Mortal Kombat 12 is coming in 2023, or at least that's the plan right now. We know that because someone from Warner Bros. Discovery mentioned it during an earnings call as if it was something we all already knew. Oops. The next game in the series hasn't been officially announced just yet though, but Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon may have teased that something is coming soon.
Boon is always active on social media and has been having fun with Mortal Kombat fans ever since WBD unintentionally stole his and the series' thunder. Never more so than he did this morning when Mortal Kombat's co-creator tweeted the word tick 12 times. Perhaps evidence that a Mortal Kombat 12 announcement is imminent.

Tweeting exactly 12 ticks certainly doesn't seem like an accident. Some of you think the 12 might have more significance than the name of the game alone, though. A few of you think since it's Mortal Kombat 12, and Boon has included 12 ticks in his tweet, that the game will be officially unveiled, and potentially get a release date, on April 12. If NetherRealm is going for symmetry, that would be a cool way to do it.
That's certainly a feasible theory and would give us just two weeks to wait until we possibly get a first look at a current-gen Mortal Kombat game. Others have suggested Boon and NetherRealm will announce it far sooner, perhaps on April 1. The worst day of the year for anyone who covers news, and an absolute nightmare for Mortal Kombat fans waiting for an announcement as they won't know what's real and what isn't.
