The world-first completion of Destiny 2's Root of Nightmares raid has led to numerous Darkness Splinters appearing throughout Neomuna. It's a longstanding tradition in Destiny 2 for world-first raid completions to lead to sudden changes in the world. These changes can prove dramatic or subtle, adding exciting content or furthering Destiny 2's story. So far, the Root of Nightmares completion hasn't led to any particularly big changes, to Destiny 2 players' dismay, but there are some noteworthy additions to mention.
The Root of Nightmares raid, the first to launch for Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, arrived on March 10. While many Destiny 2 players were expecting the raid to take a significant amount of time to complete due to Bungie raising gameplay difficulty in Lightfall, that was not the case. Root of Nightmares was completed by a team of lesser-known players in around two and a half hours, a speedy pace compared to prior Destiny 2 raids. Bungie confirmed the completion within two hours.
Some Destiny 2 Players Have Already Finished Root of Nightmares Raid
After Bungie confirmed the first completion of Root of Nightmares, Splinters of Darkness started appearing across the new Lightfall zone of Neomuna. Splinters of Darkness are floating, stationary crystals with an orange haze surrounding them. Players can activate them, after which they'll disappear. There are no clues, quests, or story bits available indicating what these Darkness Splinters are, leaving many Destiny 2 players befuddled.
The one thing that is clear is that Darkness Splinters are associated with one of Lightfall's secret Triumphs. One Destiny 2 player on Reddit claimed that they collected «all of them» and in return received 80 points toward their Triumph
