As a video game series that borrows heavily from martial arts films, Mortal Kombat movies are a no-brainer. And yet few have managed to achieve widespread acclaim with fans and critics, as many feel that these adaptations just don't stick the landing.

Well, unless it's the original 1995 film, of course. Of the six films the games have received, across both live-action and animation, most fans are still citing Mortal Kombat (1995) as their favourite.

This is despite the 2021 reboot working with a much larger budget, and seemingly trying to replace the old film as the definitive Mortal Kombat movie.
