The Last of Us Part 1 launched for PC yesterday, spelling the franchise’s debut on the platform, but its fair to say things haven’t gone as smoothly as one would have hoped. The game currently stands at a user rating of Mostly Negative on Steam, with only only 32% of over 5,000 user ratings being positive at the time of writing.
Even so, in spite of the rough state the game has launched in and the backlash that has led to, it seems to be doing fairly well where pure numbers are concerned. As per SteamDB, The Last of Us Part 1 saw a peak concurrent user count of 36,496 players on Steam on the day of its launch, making it PlayStation’s fourth biggest Steam launch to date, below God of War (73,529), Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (66,436), and Horizon Zero Dawn (56,557).
Doubtless, the hype generated by HBO’s The Last of Us series will have contributed to the game’s launch numbers on PC. You can check out a table of the launch numbers for all of Sony’s PC releases so far below.
Naughty Dog has said that it’s looking into The Last of Us Part 1 PC’s performance issues, crashes, and several other technical problems, and will continue to release patches for the foreseeable future to fix the game.
