Ah, the rumoured PS5 Pro. Reports of this upgraded console really kicked into gear earlier a couple of weeks back, with claims that the half-step console is already in development and could be targeting a 2024 release window.
Naturally, we wanted to know how PlayStation fans felt about this. After all, it feels like the PS5 is only just starting to hit its stride after its production cycle was battered and broken by the pandemic. We asked the Push Square community if 2024 is simply too early for a PS5 Pro, and opinions were actually a lot more divided than we expected.
We ran a poll here on the site that queried: «Do you think there'll be a PS5 Pro?», and the result was an almost even split. 57% said yes, and 43% said no. Over 1,400 votes were cast.
However, most fans aren't sold on the potential PS5 Pro actually launching as soon as next year. Although 20% reckon it'll drop in 2024, 37% went with 2025, and a further 10% said 2026. 2% went even further, with 2027 or beyond. If that's the case, then this generation is going to be very long!
The poll results make for some interesting reading, because they suggest that PlayStation fans are far from being completely sold on a potential PS5 Pro. Just assuming that the rumours turn out to be true, could we be looking at a bit of a backlash when Sony announces this thing? We suppose it all depends on the build up and how things stand in 2024, but it's a scenario that's worth thinking about.
