Sony PlayStation is reportedly working on a new handheld. But for those hoping for a successor to the adored PS Vita, it might not be everything you're wishing for.
Insider Gaming reports that Sony is developing a new piece of hardware that will be used with the PlayStation 5. Codenamed the Q Lite, this handheld would be designed for Remote Play with the PS5, per the publication. This handheld therefore would require a PS5 in order to work.

The so-called Q Lite would not be a cloud-streaming device but would use Remote Play, a feature that Sony has been trying to promote recently. As such, the handheld would need constant internet connection. PS Remote Play is a feature that lets users stream and play their PS4 and PS5 games on a mobile device.
According to Insider's report, early builds of the handheld resembles the PS5 controller except the centre features a large 8-inch screen, adaptive triggers for haptic feedback, along with volume buttons, speakers, and audio input. The handheld is said to have adaptive streaming up to 1080p and 60fps.
As for when we might see this handheld out in the wild, it seems there's still a little while to go, as the device is said to be in the QA phase. However, it might not be too far off in the future as this handheld is reportedly scheduled to launch before the much-rumoured PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony is making a big push with the PS5 now that hardware supply has been stabilised, while it's been reported by industry insider Jeff Grubb that Sony is planning to kick off the "second phase of the PS5".
