Hints have been dropping for a while, but today Activision officially announced this year’s entry in the mega-blockbuster CoD franchise – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. No subtitle like 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, they’re keeping it simple. You can check out the announcement tweet, below.
In addition to that, while many suspected it as Microsoft wasn’t being particularly sneaky, but the “Direct” being broadcast after June’s big Xbox Games Showcase will indeed be a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct.
“Full Reveal Date Confirmed: Xbox Games Showcase, Sunday June 9th at 10 AM PT. Black Ops 6 Direct immediately following. Stay on this channel for further updates.”
As we reported yesterday, a teaser site and some “leaks” (most likely strategically placed by Activision) hinted that the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was imminent. In particular, the teaser website thetruthlies.com features a couple brief video clips that hint at the tone of the upcoming game. One of the videos shows some group making a statement by putting blindfolds reading “The Truth Lies” on the Presidential noggins of Mount Rushmore. Another teaser on the site shows the same group putting up posters featuring an image of the blindfolded Mt. Rushmore.
While we’ll have to wait for the full reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in June, rumors have stated it will be your typical shadowy Treyarch tale set in and around the first Gulf War. Whether it focuses specifically on the Gulf War of just that general early 90s period, remains to be seen. The Black Ops 6 Direct will also likely reveal how Microsoft plans to sell the game, as there are strong rumors they plan to put it on Game Pass on Day 1, which would obviously be a big shakeup for the series.
So, what do you think? Excited to get your first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6? What’s your favorite Call of Duty sub-series?
