Pokémon GO’s 8th Anniversary is almost here! It’s going to kick off with all sorts of fun from Friday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m. The celebrations run till Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. You’re in for some wild new Pokémon debuts, event bonuses and a chance to score big in raids and trades.
First up, you get some new Pokémon in themed costumes. You’ll spot Grimer and Muk wearing party hats. And if you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Grimer too! And Meltan is making a shiny comeback if you use the Mystery Box during the event.
During Pokémon GO’s 8th Anniversary, you’ll have an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends and scoring Lucky Pokémon in trades. Friendship levels will skyrocket faster than usual when you’re opening Gifts, trading Pokémon or battling together. And you might find 8 or even 88 Gimmighoul Coins when you spin a PokéStop with a Golden Lure Module.
Special bonuses are sprinkled throughout the Pokémon GO’s 8th Anniversary event. From June 28th to 29th, enjoy half Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are in Incubators. Then, from June 30th to July 1st, rack up double XP for catching Pokémon. Finally, from July 2nd to July 3rd, get double Stardust for catches.
The fun extends to one-star raids too, where the festively dressed Pokémon will have an even greater chance of being shiny. Event-themed field research tasks will lead to encounters with partner Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, Mudkip and more. Also, you’ll get Mega Energy rewards for Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Sceptile, Blaziken and Swampert.
There are other events like Timed Research tasks and Whispers in the Woods Masterwork Research up for grabs for a couple of bucks. You can check out the full list of paid events on the official website. There are some pretty adorable stickers and a special Anniversary Box available in the Pokémon GO web store, so do check them out, too.
In the meantime, be sure to check out some of our other recent scoops. Cookie Run: Kingdom Delays Version
