Nintendo has officially unveiled its mystery Emio game just a week after teasing it, and it’s none other than a new entry in the series.
The new game was formally shown off in a new trailer and announcement from Nintendo, and is a new entry in a franchise that spans almost four decades.
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is set to release on the Nintendo Switch on August 29, 2024. Check out a trailer for the game and discussion with producer and writer Yoshio Sakamoto below:
The new mystery thriller follows the story of an assistant private investigator with the Utsugi Detective Agency who is tasked with helping the police solve a crime that may connect to an 18-year-old string of unsolved murders.
The new game is the first entry in the Famicom Detective Club series, which began back in 1988 for the Family Computer Disk System. The game spawned a trilogy of entries, the first two of which were written by Sakamoto before he would go on to direct several games in the iconic Metroid series.
In 2021, both Famicom Detective Club games were remade for the Nintendo Switch, and featured new graphics, music, and additional voice dialogue.
