Mattel and developer Outright Games announced the upcoming adventure game with a trailer on Wednesday. The new game will bring family-friendly fun to PC and consoles this fall.
Barbie Project Friendship will be available on October 25 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC. The new game follows two Barbies, nicknamed Malibu and Brooklyn, as they team up to restore the Malibu Waves Community Center. Players can also explore the island and help other Barbie characters. This includes making ice cream with Ken, decorating scooters with Nikki, and helping Teresa fix up the arcade.
Other minigames include tennis, skateboarding, music, and more. Players can also decorate Barbies’ room and unlock stylish new outfits. While the main adventure is single-player only, the minigame supports two-player local co-op.
Barbie Project Friendship shares a universe with the Netflix children’s shows Barbie: Dreamhouse Adventures and Barbie: A Touch of Magic. Outright Games developed it in collaboration with Ann Austen, who worked on both series. The voice cast of the Netflix shows also reprise their roles in the upcoming game.
“We are looking forward to bringing more Barbie adventures to a new generation of young players on all modern gaming platforms and PC for the first time,” said Mattel’s Erika Winterholler. “With Barbie Project Friendship, players can expect to create cherished memories with friends, embodying the spirit of fun, friendship, and creativity that Barbie represents.”
Outright Games Managing Director Stephanie Malham commented, “It is an honor to work with Mattel on such a profound and beloved brand. Barbie is an icon and role model for children across the globe, and we are so excited to bring the adventures of Malibu and Brooklyn to life.”
