Metroid fans have been waiting a long time, but Nintendo finally gave fans what they’d been looking for when it shared the first gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond at its latest Nintendo Direct earlier this week.
The two minute gameplay trailer gives us a solid, but brief, look at the typical first person combat, scanning, and exploration featured in the series, though the fidelity of the gameplay has many wondering if the game was running on the still unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 – or whatever Nintendo ends up calling it.
When we say fans have been waiting a long time, we mean it. The game was originally revealed back in June 2017 with only a logo to get things going. Two years later in 2019, Nintendo revealed plans to reboot the title and announced that Retro Studios, the series’ original developers would be handling the project.
It hasn’t been all scraps for Metroid fans, however. Nintendo did feed players with Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime Remastered over the last few years. Still, it’s great to finally have something on the next entry in the Metroid Prime series. The wait until its release sometime in 2025 is going to be tough.
