Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct featured a, with fans finally able to see new footage of the highly anticipated next entry in the Metroid saga.
The new trailer didn’t show off too much, but did focus on some classic Metroid gameplay aspects, including Samus arriving on a planet and getting into a firefight with some enemies. Upon entering a facility, the trailer also shows off Samus’ ability to roll into a ball and move through vents, before ending on another battle.
The next entry in the Metroid franchise will arrive sometime in 2025 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Currently, not a whole lot is known about the upcoming game. Originally announced in 2017, the project has gone through some turbulent times. At first, Bandai Namco Studios was heading up development, and after two years of work, Nintendo announced in 2019 that development would be restarted, this time with Retro Studios — the original developers of the franchise — at the helm.
The Metroid Prime series began in 2002, with a game developed by Retro Studios for the Nintendo Gamecube. The title was a massive hit, and brought the Metroid franchise into the future by being the first Metroid game to use 3D graphics and a first-person perspective.
Two follow-up games, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, were released in 2004 and 2007, respectively.
