A recent survey has claimed to reveal the 10 scariest horror games. Horror games have been around for decades, though the genre really exploded in popularity in the 90s thanks to hit games like Capcom's Resident Evil and Konami's Silent Hill. Horror games remain popular to this day, with new entries in the horror genre released on a regular basis.
This past January, EA released the Dead Space remake to widespread acclaim, while Capcom will soon be launching the highly-anticipated Resident Evil 4 remake. There was a time when it seemed the horror genre moving in a much more action-oriented direction, but the genre has rediscovered itself and there are plenty of new horror games released on a regular basis. Not all horror games are created equal, though, and some genre fans may only be interested in playing the scariest of the bunch.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Reveals New Concept Art by Original Game's Designer
While scary is subjective, over 27,000 participated in a survey on Ranker analyzed by Datslots to determine the scariest video game of all time. The original Silent Hill from 1999 earned the crown of scariest video game with 4,098 votes, followed by the original Dead Space game from 2008. In order, the rest of the list was the original Resident Evil from 1996, Silent Hill 2, Outlast, Dead Space 2, Resident Evil 4, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the original Resident Evil 2 from 1998, and Silent Hill 4: The Room.
For the most part, the list may be what one would expect, dominated by the biggest names in the horror genre with a couple of smaller titles in the form of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast.
