In games that are as large as, it is likely difficult to create a broad range of personalities to cover every NPC. In the past, some of the followers in games like or have been a bit unremarkable and hopefully moving forward with this will be corrected.
is expected to be released on September 6 and, much like or, players will be able to bring companion NPCs along on trips across the galaxy. As is typical in many Bethesda games, there will be dialogue trees for interacting with 's companion characters and even what is being called a "". With this emphasis on dialogue and companions, there is a good chance that Bethesda took a look at what worked and didn't work with companions in past titles like .

In there was a large variety of companions offered, but one of the best of these was the vampire Serana. Not only did she provide a useful ally in combat situations with her necromantic abilities, but the interactions she had with the player and even the environment were much more complex than simply repetitive dialogue. Because of this, she proved to be one of 's best followers for her personality quirks and depth of character and could be a useful example for campions.
Building on the depth of character which those like Serana offered, could use that as a standard and provide better companions for their game, even if they had to have fewer, but better developed, followers. Creating more unique personalities for the NPC companions helps create a better immersion for players and, ultimately, gives a better overall game
