News regarding DLC content for FromSoftware's game has been anticipated since last year, after director Hidetaka Miyazaki said there was more to come to at TGA 2022. But much like itself, the DLC and the titular shadow of the Erdtree remain much of a mystery, as FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have only announced the expansion's development with a few words, a piece of artwork, and nothing more.

is not only mysterious but surprising. Much of the speculation about DLC thought the Tarnished would leave the Lands Between or enter new conflict with an Outer God. That the DLC's title is suggests that the central structure in the main game will remain integral to the expansion and its story. Though FromSoftware have shared practically nothing about, much has been suggested by the artwork featured in the DLC's announcement (shown in the image above). With a character with golden braids similar to Miquella's and a decrepit tree oozing golden dew, it appears that 's DLC will most likely take place after the events of the game when the Erdtree is burnt and Miquella is freed from Mohg. So, players can narrow down a few potential possibilities for what the titular shadow of the Erdtree could end up being.
