The possibility of being set after the events of has many wondering which ending is canon. The game allows players to make a variety of choices that impact the story’s conclusion, and it stands to reason that those choices could also impact if it takes place after ’s main story. One particular ending stands out as a possible canon choice, especially based on details in ’s announcement image.
has six endings to choose from, with each leaving The Lands Between and the Erdtree in different states. The art for depicts the Erdtree still standing, albeit in a decayed state. This would seem to remove the Frenzied Flame ending, which sees the Erdtree in ruins, as a canon option. Ranni’s Age of Stars is ’s best ending but doesn’t necessarily make sense, as it entails the player leaving behind The Lands Between to join Ranni. This leaves the Elden Lord ending and its variations up for consideration, of which one is most notable.

Miquella, the character speculated to be in the Shadow of the Erdtree image, had a close relationship with Godwyn. Despite these potential connections, however, the ending may have less of an impact than some players may think.
