It was previously reported that Apple is working on a new version of the MacBook Air with a larger display. The machine was expected to be launched at Apple's Spring event but it seems it is too late for it since WWDC 2023 is right around the corner. A prominent analyst has shared various details regarding Apple's plans for a larger 15.5-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip and prospects of the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips. Scroll down to read more details on the subject.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will launch the larger 15.5-inch MacBook Air at its WWDC 2023 event on June 5. The news was shared in a report that also cited that an unreleased 15-inch MacBook Air running a version of the M2 chip was discovered in the App Store developer logs. The report also shared details on the processor's configuration and core count, highlighting that the chip's performance is "on par" with the M2 chip.
According to the details mentioned in the report, the M2 chip in the upcoming 15.5-inch MacBook Air will feature an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. The core configuration of the chip is the same as the current version of the M2 chip. It can be presumed that the larger variant of the MacBook Air will feature the same computational and graphics performance as the 13.6-inch variant which was announced last year in June.
Other than the M2 chip, the 15.5-inch MacBook Air is also reported to house 8GB of RAM. While the amount of RAM is similar to the current version, Apple will potentially give users the option to upgrade to 16GB. In the App Store developer logs shared with the source, the MacBook Air is identified with the model number "Mac 15,3" running macOS 14. Apple will announce the upcoming macOS 14 platform at its WWDC 2023 event
