One of Star Citizen’s biggest updates yet is now live. Alpha 3.23 adds new features such as a new character customizer, interface overhaul, Vulkan and image upscaling support, and more.
Starting with the new character customizer, Cloud Imperium Games say they’ve rebuilt the customizer from the ground up, adding new base head models, hairstyles, eyebrows, facial hair, and even the ability to save and retrieve character creations.
Other equally important features are improvements to the game’s underlying tech, and while not as sexy, should make a huge difference for players.
One such change is the relocation of the game’s Replication Layer onto its own service, which should allow servers to recover after a crash without disconnecting players, preventing the loss of progress.
Another new addition is the enabling of the Vulkan Renderer. CIG doesn’t expect this renderer to improve performance over DX11 at this time, but the aim is to iron out any issues so that Vulkan eventually outperforms DX11 and becomes the game’s default renderer.
Lastly, on the performance side, CIG has added image upscaling in the form of DLSS, FSR, and the studio’s in-house developed TSR feature.
There’s tons more in the update. Get the full details over at the official Star Citizen website.
