NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games today announced the twelfth mainline entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Mortal Kombat 1.
Weeks of teasing have culminated in today’s announcement. Mortal Kombat 1 is indeed real and ushers in a new, reimagined universe created by Fire God Liu Kang. Liu Kang, Raiden, Kung Lao, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Mileena, and Johnny Cage are all confirmed to be on the launch roster. New to the franchise are Kameo fights, which NetherRealm describes as a unique set of partner characters that can assist during matches. Unfortunately, Mortal Kombat 1 continues the tradition of locking a fighter behind pre-ordering. It was Goro in Mortal Kombat X, Darkseid in Injustice 2, and Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat 11. For Mortal Kombat 1, the character being held ransom is Shang Tsung.
“With Mortal Kombat 1 we are bringing a reimagined universe to the legendary franchise which has captivated gamers for more than 30 years and continues to top itself,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The talented team at NetherRealm Studios continues to push the series
