In a new Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to turn your iPhone into a smart display with the launch of iOS 17. The upcoming update was initially speculated to revolve around "maintenance", but later reports suggested that iOS 17 will be a major update with major changes expected on the Lock Screen as well as the Control Center.
It was previously reported that the company is working on a smart display similar to the Amazon Echo Show or the Google Nest Hub. While there are no release timeframes in sight, the company is planning to introduce one bit of the segment with iOS 17 in the coming weeks. The smart display mode on the iPhone would potentially be available on iPhone models with an Always-On display. Currently, only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max features an Always-On display. By the time iOS 17 is released to the general public, iPhone 15 Pro models would also be launched.
