Although some methods have become famous in the community, such as using an enlarged owlbear to crush foes as it leaps from a cliff, some are not as well-known. Larian has put dozens of status effects into their game, whether that be bleeding or fire damage and many are known to be deadly. Yet one rare condition allows players to instantly kill their foes, no matter their power.
Most players may never see the atrophied status effect in their playthrough unless they go looking for it. In the game, the description of atrophied reads: This can be any of the six abilities, whether that be strength, intelligence, or charisma; however, no character in has an ability score of 0 naturally.
This is something added by rather than a carryover from 5eIn a character only dies if their constitution is reduced to 0 due to it being the stat that dictates HP. The other abilities affect a character differently, such as strength being reduced to 0, preventing any movement of that character. This makes sense since death is much less of an obstacle in compared to its tabletop counterpart, where an NPC like Withers can't revive party members for a measly 100 gp.
Because ability score damage is rare in there are not many hard and fast rules regarding ability scores being dropped to 0.
