The film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is being made in the "closest possible collaboration" with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto. The chairman of Sony Motion Pictures, which is producing the film, adds that Miyamoto is a "true genius", citing the success of the Super Mario Bros. movie.
This comes from an interview with Deadline, who spoke with chairman Tom Rothman about the studio's upcoming projects. Here, he sheds a bit more light on the Zelda movie, which so far, we don't know much about other than that it will be live-action.
"Big IP movies are going to stay big," says Rothman, discussing the variety in Sony's current movie lineup. "The Legend of Zelda is going to be huge for us. Massive."
He continues, explaining why he believes that Zelda will avoid the shortcomings of previous video game adaptations. "Because the movie is being developed and made in the closest possible collaboration with Shigeru Miyamoto," Rothman explains. "He’s a true genius in that world, and it’s really his strong vision that is motivating it. He created it and understands it thoroughly. You only to look at the results of Super Mario Brothers to see."

Aside from that, Rothman doesn't have anything else to say about the highly anticipated film. As it was only revealed last year, we probably won't get a look at it for some time, especially since we don't know if there's a cast yet.
While we are some time away from getting more details about Zelda, we can expect this to be a priority for Nintendo. We already know that there's going to be a Super Mario Bros. 2, with its star, Chris Pratt, saying that it will start a "Nintendo Cinematic Universe". With this in mind, we could see even more Nintendo properties get brought to the big screen.
