Wargroove 2, a full sequel to the Advance Wars-inspired turn-based tactical game, has been announced for Nintendo Switch and PC.
Much like the original, Chucklefish and new developer Robotality have taken deep inspiration from the cute pixel art tactics of the popular Advance Wars series, but Wargroove 2 will come with a new campaign, new island setting of Aurania that leans into a bit of a piratical theme for the new commanders and a new roguelike Conquest mode.
The campaign will come with three new story arcs that are interwoven for a dramatic conclusion, showcasing the new factions and commanders, who will be more powerful than ever before thanks to a tiered Groove system. You’ll have to put your tactical nous to the test if you try the roguelike Conquest mode, though.
Beyond the single player there will be co-op and multiplayer modes for up to four players, both locally and online, and improved map, campaign and cutscene editors as well.
Dom reviewed the game back for its original release in 2019, saying “In a world bereft of a new Advance Wars, Wargroove is a worthy successor. Its fantasy retro strategy stylings mark it out as a wonderful amalgamation of the classic Fire Emblem and Wars games, and while it doesn’t revolutionise the genre in the way that the modern Fire Emblem games have it nails the feel of Intelligent System’s best games – while standing proudly on its own.”
