After months of rumours and speculation, the next Call of Duty has officially been announced as Black Ops 6, which is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software.
Since Call of Duty is an annual release, it's been known for some time now that we'd be getting a new game in 2024. Up until today, it hasn't been officially known what the next Call of Duty would be about (although it was largely rumoured to be set during the Gulf War), but the general assumption was that it was going to be a new Black Ops game.
Well, it looks like Call of Duty fans were right on the money, as the next Call of Duty game has now officially been confirmed to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Over on Twitter, the Call of Duty Twitter page shared a quick teaser that shows the game's logo before unredacting the title and confirming our suspicions.
The tweet revealing Black Ops 6 doesn't tell us too much about the game, but it does claim that it's going to be a "dark new chapter", which suggests that there might be a bit more focus on story this time around. We'll have to wait and see how much that ends up clashing with all the wild skins that Call of Duty has in its online modes.
It has since also been confirmed that the two development teams working on Black Ops 6 are Treyarch (known for the Black Ops games) and Raven Software (who are mainly a support studio for CoD games). As spotted by CharlieIntel, Treyarch and Raven Software both retweeted the announcement teaser and revealed that they're working together on the game.
If you're wondering why it's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and not 5, then you might want to think back to 2020's Cold War, which was technically the fifth game.
Of course, while it's nice to have official confirmation that the next game is Black Ops 6, it doesn't come as a surprise at all. Over the last week, several teasers have been popping up for the next Call of Duty game, with one in a magazine even directly revealing the title and logo.
