Will the upcoming Gears of War E-Day have a multiplayer mode like previous installments in the series? The Coalition talked about it in a recent interview.
The Coalition and Microsoft debuted a stunning trailer for E-Day during last week's Xbox Showcase. Yes, it turned out that this trailer wasn't in real-time, but it has many excited nonetheless. Since the release of the trailer, fans have been wondering whether E-Day will also include Gears' iconic multiplayer mode. In a new interview with WindowsCentral, Creative Director Matt Searcy briefly touched on the subject, and while he didn't directly confirm multiplayer, he did provide some hints.
"I would say, this is the next mainline Gears game," the Creative Director said when asked about multiplayer, "Gears has a pretty clear DNA for gameplay modes, so you can probably anticipate where we'll be going with E-Day."
Based on this reply, it's pretty likely that E-Day will offer a fan-favorite multiplayer mode.
Interestingly enough, further in the interview, Searcy and Brand Director Nicole Fawcette also mentioned the story arcs of Gears 4 and Gears 5. After all, many Gears fans expected The Coalition to announce Gears 6 after the events of Gears 5. This, however, didn't happen and the team announced a prequel. Luckily for some, The Coalition isn't deserting the story of Gears 4 and 5, as emphasized by Fawcette.
"We're focused on this and pouring everything we can into it right now, what the next game is will be for us to decide in the future," Searcy said. Fawcette added, "We're not retreating from the stories of Gears 4 and 5, though. We just spent time thinking about the stories we want to tell, and we can flex the franchise from both sides. We're excited about telling this story, and hopefully, fans will love this story too."
Gears of War: E-Day is coming to Xbox and PC on a yet-to-be-announced date.
