and have now become HBO Originals.
In June, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that three Max Originals — Lanterns, Welcome to Derry, and the forthcoming Harry Potter series — were shifting to become HBO Originals, meaning they will premiere on HBO while also launching on Max.
Per Deadline, Warner Bros. Discovery has now decided that The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy will also be HBO Originals.
“It is part of a strategy to rebrand its highest profile titles into HBO Originals, giving them a linear airing on the premium cable network as well as a streaming bow,” Deadline’s article states.
The Penguin is the forthcoming limited series that serves as a spin-off to 2022’s The Batman. It sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, while Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Clancy Brown, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Mark Strong, Theo Rossi, and more also star in the series.
The series is set after the events of The Batman and sees Farrell’s character try to take control of Gotham’s underworld. The Penguin premieres on September 9, 2024.
Dune: Prophecy is a prequel series to Denis Villeneuve’s films that stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.
“From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit,” the official logline reads. “Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel ‘Sisterhood of Dune,’ written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.”
Dune: Prophecy will premiere this coming fall.
