, a new Stephen King adaptation that is being directed by The Hunger Games’ Francis Lawrence, has added seven new cast members.
The Long Walk is a forthcoming movie from Lionsgate that adapts King’s 1979 novel of the same name. It was previously announced that Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) and David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus) were both in talks to star in the film.
Per Deadline, Hoffman and Jonsson’s casting has now been confirmed.
It has also been revealed that The Long Walk will star Charlie Plummer (National Anthem, Looking for Alaska), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Garrett Wareing (Manifest), Tut Nyuot (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), Jordan Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), and Joshua Odjick (Welcome to Derry).
Set in a dystopian America, King’s The Long Walk is about an annual contest that forces contestants to walk for thousands of miles without rest. Should they stop or slow down, they then risk being killed.
Production for The Long Walk is now underway. It is expected to continue in Manitoba, Canada, throughout the summer. A release date for the movie has not yet been announced by Lionsgate.
The script for the movie was written by JT Mollner. Lawrence also serves as a producer alongside Roy Lee, Cameron MacConomy, and Steven Schneider.
Lawrence previously made a number of movies in the Hunger Games franchise, including 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, 2014’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2, and 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. He also made 2005’s Constantine, 2007’s I Am Legend, 2011’s Water for Elephants, 2018’s Red Sparrow, and 2022’s Slumberland.
It was also previously announced that Lawrence will direct the next entry in the Hunger Games franchise, Sunrise on the Reaping, which releases in November 2026.
