Ubisoft lays off 45 US staff
French publishing giant Ubisoft has cut 45 members of staff from its US business.
The news was initially reported by Bloomberg, which claimed that the Assassin's Creed firm was laying off workers from Red Storm Entertainment – based in Cary, North Carolina and its office in San Francisco. It's not clear what fields have been impacted by these cuts.
“Yesterday Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm Entertainment informed their teams of a restructuring that resulted in 45 employees leaving Ubisoft,” an Ubisoft rep told IGN.
“This difficult yet necessary decision was made to align these studios’ organizations with their future business and development objectives. We are committed to providing comprehensive support to those affected, including severance and career assistance, and we thank them for their many contributions to Ubisoft.”
Most recently, Red Storm Entertainment was attached to develop The Division: Heartland mobile title, but this product was cancelled in May of this year. Ubisoft San Francisco, meanwhile, is working on free-to-play shooter XDefiant.
