One observant Destiny 2 player has discovered that Weapon damage-boosting Armor Mods aren't working as intended, leading to several scenarios of weapons being significantly weaker than planned. Destiny 2 has a long and storied history with bugs and glitches, with the infamous Telesto Exotic Fusion Rifle having caused a significant portion of the problems. The myriad of issues plaguing the game since Lightfall's launch has been much direr than before, often leading to several Destiny 2 weapons, armor, and Mods being disabled in tandem.
Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion has introduced several changes to the game to refresh the experience and bring a sense of challenge back to the game. One such change was Bungie's decision to remove the one-dimensional Elemental Burn system and replace it with a splintered Surge-Threat-Overcharge mechanic. In this new system, players and enemies take 25% increased damage from sources matching the Elemental Surge, and players no longer suffer the 50% increased damage taken penalty. Additionally, a select weapon class is Overcharged in high-end activities, allowing that weapon type to deal 25% increased damage regardless of Elemental Surge.

A Reddit user named StealthMonkey27 has posted their results of testing the Weapon Surge Mods with active Elemental Surge and Overcharge modifiers and discovering that several combinations do not work as intended. According to StealthMonkey27's batch of six tests, attempting to use an Overcharged Weapon matching the Elemental Surge, in conjunction with three Elemental Weapon Surge Mods, will result in the weapon losing the 22% damage bonus from the Armor Mods.
