E3 was finally cancelled last night after a host of big-name publishers pulled out, and it looks like it might be the last nail in the coffin for the event as a whole. With so many expecting E3 to never truly come back as it was, they're sharing their fondest memories of the event over the years.

CD Projekt Red global PR director Radek Grabowski tweeted a photo of the original Witcher booth. It's fairly innocuous, there's a small table and chair in front of a big poster with a demo of the game ready to be played on a fairly standard PC rig. One commenter even likened it to a doctor's office. But that first game would lead The Witcher 2 and 3, skyrocketing the series into newfound popularity.
IndieBI co-founder Callum Underwood meanwhile posted a photo of their first and last E3 nine years ago where they showed Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto the Oculus Rift. You can see him sitting down with a controller in hand, wearing the headset, all while a crowd gathers 'round to see what they think.
Polygon co-founder Arthur Gies didn't have a photo to share, but instead a wholesome story. In 2014, he saw a boy at a table with "a little swag bag" trying to be excited, but given that this E3 wasn't "designed for normal people", there wasn't much for them to do.
So, Arthur went to the Activision booth and asked the agency rep for help, and while Call of Duty was too mature to show a little kid, they did have a Destiny booth - the kid loved it, and even went home with a few bags of keepsakes.
It's looking less and less likely that E3 will continue into 2024 and beyond, with Summer Game Fest and individual publisher streams taking its place, but at least for those who got the
